District Information

 
The Tulpehocken Area School District is located in the northwestern corner of Berks County. It is approximately 45 miles east of Harrisburg, 20 miles north of Reading, and 45 miles west of Allentown. It includes the five municipalities of Penn Township, Tulpehocken Township, Jefferson Township, Bethel Township, and Bernville Borough. The district encompasses approximately 100 square miles.

Students in the Tulpehocken Area School District are educated in three buildings. The Bethel Elementary School and the Penn Bernville Elementary School are located on opposite ends of the district and educate students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The Tulpehocken Area Junior-Senior High School educates students in grades seven through twelve. There are approximately 1450 students served by the Tulpehocken Area School District.

Mr. Andrew Netznik is in his 16th year in education and fourth year with the Tulpehocken Area School District.  He previously served as the Junior-Senior High School principal.  He has previously served in administrative positions at Hamburg and Schuylkill Haven Area School Districts.  He earned a Masters Degree from Wilkes University and a Bachelor's Degree from Moravian College.  Andy is currently pursuing his doctoral degree from Neumann University.  He loves golfing, tennis, and spending time with his family.  He is excited to serve in his role as superintendent.
Mrs. Amanda Cipola, Assistant to the Superintendent

Amanda is in her fifth year with Tulpehocken.  She was previously Penn-Bernville's Principal, Special Education teacher, Response to Instruction and Intervention Coordinator and Dean of Students. She has a BS Degree in Elementary and Special Education, Reading Specialist certification and a MS Degree in Education from Kutztown University.  Amanda obtained her principal certification from Alvernia  University.  She enjoys riding her ATV, camping, exercising and spending time with her husband and two dogs.  
 
Mr. Thomas Kowalonek, Business Manager

Tom has been leading the operations of the district since 2009 and has been a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials for over 15 years. He has a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Lehigh University and attended the Central Atlantic Advanced School of Banking at Bucknell University. Tom also has spent many years in the banking and financial services industry. He enjoys golf, hunting and travel.

Mr. Rick Triest is in his 32nd year with the Tulpehocken Area School District. He is serving as Director of Buildings and Grounds. Previously he served as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds/Transportation, head custodian, custodian and substitute custodian. Matt is starting his 8th year at Tulpehocken. Matt has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from Kutztown University. He previously served as the IT Support Specialist for the district before moving to his new role. Outside of Tulpehocken, Matt enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 dogs, playing soccer and fastpitch softball. 
 
Mr. Denis Quirk, Junior-Senior High School Principal

Mr. Denis Quirk is in his 10th year in education, and in his second year here at Tulpehocken. He spent 8 years teaching Physics and Earth Science at Conestoga Valley High School, as well as coaching football, wrestling, and track and field. Mr. Quirk completed his undergraduate studies at Millersville University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education. He obtained his Master of Education degree from Cabrini College. In his free time, Mr. Quirk enjoys being outdoors and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Mr. Michael Leister, Assistant Principal

Mr. Michael Leister is in his 24th year in education, with his last 16 years here at Tulpehocken. He has served as the Jr./Sr. High Assistant Principal and the Jr. High House Principal. He previously worked in the Bellefonte and Reading School Districts. He has a B.S. from Penn State University and an M.S. from Seton Hall University. He is a huge Penn State fan and enjoys hunting and fishing.
 
Stacy is in her second year at Tulpehocken.  This is her 16th year in education.  Over the last 15 years, she has worked as a teacher and elementary education consultant.  Stacy earned a BA in Elementary Education from Alvernia University, a Masters degree in Education from Cabrini College, and her principal certification from Drexel University.  Stacy’s greatest achievement comes not professionally, but personally, she is the mother of 2 amazing children: Bradley (13) and Magdalyn (10).   In her spare time, Ms. Linderman enjoys spending time with her family and going to the beach!

Mr. Derek Stehr, Bethel Elementary Principal

Mr. Derek Stehr is in his 9th year in education, and in his 1st year at Tulpehocken.  He spent his first 5 years teaching elementary learning support and the past 3 years as a 5th grade teacher.  Mr. Stehr completed his undergraduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business.  He obtained his elementary and special education certification at Alvernia University.  He later earned his Master of Education and principal certification also at Alvernia University.  In his free time, Mr. Stehr enjoys hunting, watching football, and spending time with his wife and two young children.
