At Tulpehocken Jr/Sr High School, the art department consists of Mrs. Deborah Miller at the JH teaching 7th -8th grade, and Mrs. Lynne Higgins at the HS teaching 9th-12th. We both teach a variety of media and techniques but also include insights into artists, cultures, and historical aspects. Our goal is to encourage students to unlock their creative potential no matter what level they start at. In 7th grade you have art for a semester, and 8th grade, you have art for a trimester. At the high school, there are 8 semester classes: General Art, Drawing 1, Drawing II, Painting, Pottery, Sculpture, Design, and Advanced Art.

There is also an Art Club on both levels, where students can work on pieces from drawings, calligraphy, book making, or pieces not normally covered in class. We are active in participating in art shows: The Yocum Institute, our district’s “Youth Art Month” show, and the Berks County Senior High Art Show held annually at the GoogleWorks in Reading. At the end of the year we have a Spring Arts Festival, which is a huge art show coordinated with the music concert. We have a rotating display in our showcases and front office, and also have a permanent art collection at both the high school and district office.
