6th Grade

The final year of elementary school provides opportunities to experience switching classes for the first time as a transition to junior high school. Mrs. Gernsheimer teaches Science, Mrs. Hamrick teaches Writing, and Mrs. Noecker teaches Social Studies to all of the sixth grade classes. Each teacher teaches Reading and Math to their homeroom students. Our reading program includes literature circle novels with small group discussions and the use of Holt McDougal Literature and Interactive Reader. In math we use the College Preparatory Mathematics Core Connections 1 program.

Sixth graders may participate in numerous enrichment activities, such as Reading Olympics, Scripps National Spelling Bee, and National Geographic Geography Bee. Musically, students have a chance to be part of the spring musical and select chorus in addition to music experiences they have been a part of for the past two years.

Graduation is the culminating event of the students’ elementary experience. We hold a graduating ceremony in which every child is recognized. Sixth grade is an exciting learning adventure.
