Erica Bachman is a Senior High School Counselor and has been with the Tulpehocken Area School District since 2016.

Susan Burns is the Junior High School Counselor and has been with the Tulpehocken Area School District since 1999. A former New York City native, Susan earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Brooklyn College, part of the City of New York University system. She went on to complete her Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at New York University, and worked as a Psychiatric Social Worker in NYC for 6 years before relocating to Pennsylvania. She spent 10 years with Philhaven Behavioral Health as a mental health therapist prior to earning her certification from Millersville University in Secondary School Counseling. Susan is a member of the Jr. High Student Assistance Program (SAP), and works closely with the Junior High teaching staff and principals. When away from school, Susan enjoys spending time with her husband and son, going for walks, and reading a good book!

Danette Seidel is the Elementary School Counselor at Bethel Elementary. She has her bachelor's degree in psychology from Albright College, and her Master's of Education degree from Kutztown University. Danette has also completed a second Master's from Gratz College. Danette is a member of Bethel's Student Assistance Program (SAP) and a member of their Response to Intervention and Instruction (RTII) team. When not at school, Danette enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids.

Leslie Shaud is the Elementary School Counselor at Penn-Bernville Elementary School. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University, and her Masters of Education in Counseling Education from West Chester University, certified K-12, CACREP program. Leslie is a member of Penn-Bernville’s Student Assistance Program (SAP) and a member of their Response to Intervention and Instruction (RTII) team. Prior to becoming a school counselor, Leslie worked as a Foster Care Coordinator and an Autistic Support Paraprofessional at Bethel Elementary.  In Leslie’s free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, cooking, crafting, and being outside. She is excited to continue her career at Tulpehocken Area School District!

Home / School Visitor & School Social Worker

Hillary Malone is the Home and School Visitor for the District and has been with Tulpehocken since 2007. Hillary was born and raised in Berks County and returned to the area after college to start her career and family. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Shippensburg University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. Hillary became a Licensed Social Worker in 2000 and went on to obtain her Home and School Visitor Certification through PDE in 2007. Prior to entering into the public education sector, Hillary worked for 8 years at a private non-profit behavioral health rehabilitation agency in Berks County providing in-home mental health and drug and alcohol counseling services to at-risk children/adolescents and their families. At Tulpehocken, Hillary works with students at the Jr/Sr High School level to provide direct social skills instruction via small group sessions. Hillary also sits on both the Jr. and Sr. High Student Assistance Program (SAP) teams. She assists school counselors, administrators and faculty in triaging students’ needs and assisting the youth and their families to access appropriate school and community-based support services in order to eliminate barriers to academic success. When not at Tulpehocken, Hillary and her husband are busy raising their three children ages 10, 9 and 7 and staying active in all their sports and activities!

Glenna Piho the Certified School Nurse at the Junior/Senior High School. She has been a part of the Tulpehocken Area School District family since 2006. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, W.Va. She obtained her PA Certification for School Nursing from Millersville University; Master of Education in Health Education from Penn State University; and her Master of Education in School Counseling from Shippensburg University. Her nursing experience includes working in the Intensive Care Unit/ Mobile Coronary Care Unit/ Emergency Department and the Dover Area School District, Dover, PA. for 11 years as a Certified School Nurse prior to joining the team at Tulpehocken. She is a proud grandmother of 5 grandchildren and loves being with family and friends.


Paula Huey has had the privilege of taking her clinical training at an inner-city hospital where the exposure would seal her love for nursing. She then spent five years in Intensive Care at Veterans Hospital working with Vietnam Veterans and other wounded warriors. After 20 years as a staff nurse for the County of Berks, she retired. Paula then came to Tulpehocken in 2010 part time. In 2013, after working with the staff and students and enjoying everyone, she became full time.When not working, Paula enjoys swimming, gardening, and following the lives of her four grandchildren!

Lauren Oswald been the CSN for Bethel and Penn Bernville for the past 5 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Alvernia University and went on to earn her PA School Nurse Certification from Slippery Rock University. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Education degree from GRATZ College. Before coming to work for Tulpehocken, Lauren was an operating room nurse on the open heart team at the Reading Hospital. During free time Lauren likes to spend time with her husband and 2 year old daughter, travel, and participate in yoga classes.
